Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued an advanced weather warning for Tuesday following signs of severe atmospheric activity developing over the Sultanate. Recent satellite observations indicate the formation of powerful storm clouds capable of bringing heavy rainfall, isolated hailstorms, and repeated lightning strikes.
These unstable weather conditions are also expected to generate strong downward wind gusts, with northern governorates likely to be the most affected as cloud concentration intensifies in those areas. Authorities have cautioned residents to remain alert, as rapid reductions in visibility and sudden flooding may occur, especially in valleys and other low-lying locations.
The storm system is being further intensified by elevated moisture levels, with humidity ranging between 30% and 90%. In addition to inland impacts, marine conditions are expected to worsen. Sea states over the Oman Sea are forecast to range from moderate to rough, with wave heights reaching up to two metres. Winds may strengthen to around 20 knots, posing risks to small boats and coastal activities.
The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre is closely tracking the progression of the weather system and has reiterated the importance of public safety. Residents are strongly advised to avoid crossing wadis, remain cautious during travel, and follow all official instructions issued by the relevant authorities until conditions improve.
